Product Description
WAGO COMPACT 221-412 Quick Connector – 2x 0.2–4 mm2 transparent with levers
WAGO 221-412 is a 2-pole installation quick connector from the COMPACT 221 series, designed for joining all types of copper conductors – solid, stranded and fine-stranded – without tools. The transparent polycarbonate housing and patented CAGE CLAMP® technology ensure a reliable, controlled electrical connection in any installation condition.
Key advantages
- Tool-free installation – 3 steps: lift the lever, insert stripped conductor, lower the lever. Significantly reduced assembly time and elimination of crimping errors.
- Universal – one type for every conductor: supports solid conductor (0.2–4.0 mm2), stranded conductor (0.2–4.0 mm2) and ferruled conductor (0.2–4.0 mm2) in any combination in one connector. No need to stock separate connector types.
- Transparent housing – visual inspection: see fitting conductor insertion and stripping length without disassembly. Quick quality check, fewer returns.
- Two test holes: holes on both sides of the connector allow voltage and continuity measurement with connected conductors. System diagnosis without disconnecting the circuit.
- COMPACT – 40% smaller than 222 series: the 221 series takes significantly less space in distribution boxes and junction boxes. More connectors in same space, tidy installation.
- CAGE CLAMP® clamping system – gas-tight connection: tin-plated copper current bar with chromium-nickel steel spring forms a self-retaining pressure system. Reliable connection irrespective of vibration and repeated re-connections.

Applications
- Connecting and branching conductors in installation boxes and panels.
- Lighting installations – fast connections for LED and conventional lighting circuits.
- Device and machine wiring – signal and power conductor connections.
- Maintenance and modernization work – multiple connect/disconnect cycles possible.
- Installations in refrigeration furniture, household appliances, and consumer electronics.
How to use
- Strip the conductor to 11 mm.
- Lift the connector lever (orange) upward.
- Insert the conductor fully into the terminal hole.
- Lower the lever – conductor is clamped, connection is ready.
Connector is intended for copper conductors only. Do not use with aluminum conductors.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Is WAGO 221-412 suitable for fine-stranded conductors without ferrules?
Yes. The connector supports fine-stranded wire (0.14–4.0 mm2) directly, without requiring ferrules – this is one of the key benefits of the 221 CAGE CLAMP® technology.
How much insulation should be stripped before insertion?
The required stripping length is exactly 11 mm. The transparent housing allows visual verification of correct conductor insertion.
Can the connector be disconnected repeatedly?
Yes. The CAGE CLAMP® lever enables any number of connect/disconnect cycles without losing clamping properties – the contact force remains unchanged.
Is 221-412 smaller than the previous 222 series?
Yes – the COMPACT 221 series is about 40% smaller than the previous WAGO 222 series while maintaining the same electrical ratings (450 V / 32 A).
What are the two test holes in the connector for?
The test holes (on both sides of the connector) allow attaching meter or tester probes to measure voltage, resistance and circuit continuity without disconnecting the conductors.
What is the maximum operating temperature of the WAGO 221-412?
The connector operates in the range from -40°C to +85°C (T85 class). Some sources mention allowable temperature to +105°C – follow the latest manufacturer data sheet.
