Product Description

Castel HM3 series 9120/RA6 solenoid valve coil – 220/230 V AC, 12 W

The Castel 9120/RA6 is an HM3 solenoid coil rated at 220/230 V AC (50/60 Hz) with a power rating of 12 W. It is used to operate Castel normally closed (NC) solenoid valves supplied without a coil (suffix S). The coil has a Faston connection for a DIN 43650/A connector, and achieves an IP rating of IP65 when used with connector 9150/R02 or 9900/X66.

Key specifications: HM3 type • 220/230 V AC, 50/60 Hz • 12 W • IP65 (with connector) • DIN 43650/A connector • for NC valves only

Features, advantages and benefits

  • 220/230 V AC supply, 50/60 Hz → the coil operates directly from a single-phase mains supply, without an additional power supply or rectifier. → simpler installation and quick replacement of a faulty coil in an existing system.
  • 12 W power rating → the control output (e.g. a controller relay) must be able to handle a 12 W coil load. → easier selection of the valve control circuit.
  • Designed for continuous operation → coils in this series are designed by the manufacturer for continuous energisation. → the valve can remain open for as long as required by the refrigeration system.
  • Faston connection (two power contacts and an earth contact) for a DIN 43650/A connector → connect using a standard Castel 9150/R02 or 9900/X66 connector with cable. → quick installation without soldering and the option to replace the connector alone.
  • IP65 protection (with connector and supplied gaskets) → the enclosure is protected against dust and water jets when the coil and connector are correctly assembled. → reliable operation under typical refrigeration-system conditions.
  • Rubber gaskets at the top and bottom of the coil → provide additional protection for the winding against moisture. → lower risk of coil damage from condensation.
  • Dielectric resin enclosure, protection class I → the earth conductor must be connected to the earth contact. → safe operation of the system when correctly earthed.
  • G9150/R97 mounting kit (yellow nut, black screw and O-ring) → the coil is supplied with the parts needed to mount it on the valve. → fit it to the valve body without having to source additional parts.

Compatibility with Castel solenoid valves

According to Castel's technical manual “Solenoid Valves” (2017 edition), series 9120 coils (type HM3) are intended for normally closed (NC) solenoid valves supplied without a coil (suffix S) in the following series:

  • NC valves for HCFC, HFC and HFO refrigerants: 1020, 1028 (direct acting); 1064, 1068, 1070, 1078, 1079, 1090, 1098, 1099 (pilot-operated diaphragm); 1034, 1038, 1040, 1048, 1049, 1050, 1058, 1059 (pilot-operated piston).
  • High-temperature NC valves (HFC and HFO): 1020N, 1028N, 1064N, 1068N, 1070N, 1078N, 1079N, 1090N, 1098N, 1099N, 1034N, 1038N, 1040N, 1048N, 1049N, 1050N, 1058N, 1059N.
  • Pulse-operated NC valves: 1328N, 1338N.
  • NC valves for hydrocarbon refrigerants (R290, R600, R600a), N version, without ATEX certification: 1028N, 1068N, 1078N, 1079N, 1098N, 1099N.
  • NC valves for R744 (CO2): 1028EL, 1038EL, 1048EL, 1058EL.
Note – the coil is not compatible with: normally open (NO) valves in the 11xx series – Castel explicitly states that NO valves must not be used with the 9120/RA6 coil; they require DC coils 9120/RD1, RD2 or RD4, or the 9120/RD6 coil with a rectifier connector 9150/R45 or 9150/R90. The coil is also not intended for ATEX-certified valve versions (suffix EX), which Castel supplies with a 9100EX coil, or for UL-certified valves (suffix UL), which are used with coils from series 9105, 9115, 9116, 9125, 9185 and 9186. Before purchasing, check the valve designation on its label or yellow nut.

Applications

The 9120/RA6 coil is an actuator for solenoid valves in refrigeration and air-conditioning systems, including liquid, suction and hot-gas lines, within the operating range specified for the valve concerned. It is suitable for replacing a faulty coil or for assembling a valve supplied without a coil. Before connecting it to the electrical system, make sure that the mains voltage and frequency match the values specified on the coil.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Which valves is the Castel 9120/RA6 coil compatible with?
It is compatible with Castel normally closed (NC) solenoid valves, including series 1020, 1028, 1064, 1068, 1070, 1078, 1079, 1090, 1098, 1099, 1034, 1038, 1040, 1048, 1049, 1050, 1058 and 1059; their high-temperature versions (N); pulse-operated valves 1328N and 1338N; and R744 valves in series 1028EL, 1038EL, 1048EL and 1058EL. See the compatibility section for the full list.
Can the 9120/RA6 coil be installed on a normally open (NO) valve?
No. Castel states that NO valves must not be used with the 9120/RA6 coil. NO valves require DC coils or the 9120/RD6 coil with a rectifier connector.
What is the supply voltage of the 9120/RA6 coil?
220/230 V AC, 50/60 Hz. Before connecting it, check that the mains voltage and frequency match the values specified on the coil.
What is the power rating of the Castel HM3 9120/RA6 coil?
12 W.
Which connector should be used with the 9120/RA6 coil?
The coil has a Faston connection for a DIN 43650/A connector. Castel specifies connector 9150/R02 (for a user-supplied cable) and 9900/X66 (with a 1 m cable, 3 × 0.75 mm²) as providing IP65 protection.
What is the coil's degree of protection?
IP65 when used with connector 9150/R02 or 9900/X66 and the supplied gaskets.
Is the coil designed for continuous operation?
Yes. Castel states that coils in this series are designed for continuous operation.
What is the difference between the 9120/RA6 and 9320/RA6 coils?
The 9120 series (HM3) is secured with a nut and screw, while the 9320 series (HF3) features the FAST LOCK quick-mounting system. Castel states that 9320 series coils are replacements for 9120 series coils and can be used on all valves that use series 9120 coils.
